Description

“Rancore is my dream.

The dream of being able to give something to myself and others.

The Chianti hills – at S.Martino a Strada – are the home and birthplace of this wine, which express my desire to search out all the possible interpretations of what vines can give us year after year.

In spite of  its name, linked to a moment of disillusionment, of the bitterness that life can, sometimes, present us, this wine shows my wish to live in harmony with the life around us, to seek a symbiosis between knowledge and human insights on the one hand and the secrets and mysteries of nature on the other”

Grapes: 80% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot, 5% Pinot Noir

Area of origin: The site is in the Chianti hill, south of Florence

Height above sea level: Approximately 650 feet ( 200 meters) above sea level

Soil: The vineyard was planted in 1997 on a marly, medium-textured, moderately calcareous soil. The Sangiovese and Merlot enjoy a west-southernwestern exposure, while the Pinot Noir faces east and north eastwards.

Planting density: Vine density of 2800 plants per acre ( 7000 plants per hectare)

Vinification: Rancore is the perfect union of its grapes, harvested separately and then blended before the aging in barrels, where the wine evolves for a period of two years. Control of the yield and the ripening of the grapes, in addition to long skin contact during fermentation and then aging in one year old French oak barrels, are the main factors in the creation of the wine’s character and personality

Tasting notes: It features notes rounded out by racy raspberry and black fruits including black cherry, plum and currants

” Tuscany’s Sangiovese is the variety I love the most and is the major grape presence in Rancore, a wine which uses many different clones I researched and selected over decades in the vineyard of the region. Merlot accounts for 15% of the blend and provides an international touch. The 5% of Pinot Noir is the irrational essence of the project , and its presence reflects my passion for the grape and its wine. I hope that, when tasting it, you can share my boundless love for my region and for this fantastic adventure, which has, from the start, aimed at making wines of true excellence”
